FIJI ENVOY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO TUVALU GOVERNOR GENERAL

Fiji’s Roving Ambassador to the Pacific Islands Litia Mawi this week presented her credentials to Tuvalu’s Governor General, His Excellency Sir Iakoba Taeia Italeli.

In presenting her credentials, High Commissioner Mawi highlighted the relations shared between Tuvalu and Fiji and the developments that have progressed since.

“I have the honor and privilege to present to your Excellency the warmest personal greetings of His Excellency, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, President of the Republic of Fiji, with sincere best wishes for your good health and for the prosperity of the people of Tuvalu”, Ms Mawi said.

“Fiji and Tuvalu have enjoyed an affectionate relationship since entering into diplomatic relations. The existence of the Tuvalu High Commission in Suva is testimony of Tuvalu’s commitment continually enhance and enrich these relations in the political, economic, social and cultural contexts through closer collaboration between our private sectors, our civil societies and our communities in nurturing a ‘Resilient Pacific Community Through Self Reliance At All Levels’”.

High Commissioner Mawi also conveyed to Governor General Sir Italeli the Fijian government’s commitment to work in solidarity with other island states to address global issues.

“As far as small island states are concerned, Fiji believes that the time of unprecedented global challenges which do not differentiate between the rich and poor, the big and the small, the vulnerable and the secure, is a time where we ned to stand even closer by each other. Fiji appreciates this motivation for closer relations and intends to capitalise on the opportunities that available through regional and international organisations that harness the global advocacy of mattes that are in the best interests of our people”, Ms Mawi said.

“I stand ready to work with your representative in Fiji, His Excellency Aunese Simati, to explore ways and means of exploring newer modes of development cooperation that will provide our people with opportunities to productively engage and share solutions to the increasing challenges that are facing them in a fast changing world”.
