FIJI EXPANDS TIES WITH EUROPE AND AFRICA

Two foreign envoys today presented their credentials to His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Italy’s nonresident ambassador to Fiji Gian di Montegiordano today met with Fiji’s head of state and presented his credentials to formalise his tenure as the roving ambassador to Fiji. While Ambassador di Montegiordano is accredited to Fiji, he will be based in Australia.

Ambassador di Montegiordano graduated from the Rome University with a degree in Political Science and started his diplomatic career in 1978.

Mr Montegiordano has served in countries such as Russia, France and Iraq but has been seconded to other areas of Italy’s political scene, with a stint as the head of the Press Office of the chairman of the Italian senate.

In 1999 he served in Bagdad, Iraq as head of the Italian Interest section and then as the head of the Italian Special Diplomatic Delegation in Bagdad.

Algeria’s Ambassador to Fiji Mr Hadi Brouri met with the President and presented his credentials.

Mr Brouri also met with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and spoke on issues pertaining to bilateral interests.

He is also accredited to Fiji in a roving capacity as he is the resident ambassador to Australia.

Mr Brouri also has extensive experience in diplomacy as he has served in countries such as the United Kingdom, Turkey, Congo and has played an active role in multilateral institutions representing his country.

He has a diploma from the Algerian National School of Administration and is married with three children.
