As part of the Government of Fiji’s capacity development initiative, the Fiji Meteorological Service recently hosted a two-week technical training at our Nadi Headquarters.
The training focused on strengthening the skills of our meteorological and hydrological technicians in the operation, maintenance, and sustainability of Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) and Hydrological Monitoring Systems.
Through hands-on sessions and technical modules, participants enhanced their knowledge in:
Sensor technologies and calibration
Data logger systems and fault analysis
Telemetry and communication integration
Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting
Metadata management and international best practices
The training fostered confidence, collaboration, and technical excellence among our team, ensuring the reliability of our AWS and hydrological network.
The training was conducted by Mr. Anuragh Chandra, Principal Technician for Instrument Systems from the Earth Sciences New Zealand.
Acting Director Harish Pratap congratulated the team, reminding them that “training is only the beginning – real success comes when we apply what we’ve learned, support each other, and keep improving together.”
We extend our gratitude to the Government of Fiji for supporting this initiative, and we look forward to further opportunities for growth and learning with our regional and international partners.
