FIJI PARTICIPATES AT 10TH PACIFIC ISLANDS CONFERENCE OF LEADERS

Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Ratu Inoke Kubuabola yesterday attended the first day of meetings as Head of Delegation to the 10th Pacific Islands Conference of Leaders (PICL) hosted by the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The 10th Conference of Leaders is focused on Enhancing Sustainability in the Pacific Islands with the theme, “Collective Action for our Share Future”.

The conference was established to provide a forum for the leaders of the Pacific island countries and United States of America and to look at ways to assist countries in their collective efforts to achieve and sustain equitable social and economic development in the region. The PICL is an opportunity for Pacific leaders and senior officials to meet with senior American officials and experts on issues of common interests.

The American President H.E Barack Obama is expected to attend the last session and address the Pacific Leaders.

The conference has been convened just prior to the World Conservation Congress. The Congress is a global biennial event of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).

Minister Kubuabola is accompanied by Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States Solo Mara, Deputy Secretary Policy Mr Esala Nayasi and Chief Administrative Officer Mr Navneel Sharma.
