The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, led Fiji’s delegation to the 6th Republic of Korea (ROK)–Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM), held in Seoul from 8–10 December 2025.
The meeting was convened under the theme “Partnership for a Resilient, Peaceful, and Prosperous Pacific”, providing a high-level platform for Ministers and senior officials to engage on regional priorities, development cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and cooperation on emerging regional and global challenges.
During her interventions, Hon. Qereqeretabua underscored Fiji’s strong and longstanding relationship with the Republic of Korea and expressed Fiji’s deep appreciation for Korea’s continued development partnership across key national priority sectors, including human resource development, health, education, fisheries and maritime governance, renewable energy, and climate and disaster resilience.
The Assistant Minister highlighted that meaningful connectivity across people, trade and transport is central to achieving a resilient and integrated Pacific, with emphasis that strengthening education and skills development, labour mobility pathways, digital and trade connectivity, and air and maritime links between Korea and the Pacific, as critical enablers of sustainable and inclusive regional growth.
Hon. Qereqeretabua reaffirmed that the Pacific’s rich cultural identity, diversity, and deep connection to land and ocean remain the foundation of strengthened cooperation and that deeper people-centered partnerships are essential to building long-term trust, social resilience, and regional solidarity across the Blue Pacific Continent.
The Assistant Minister further reiterated that the Pacific’s partnership with Korea plays a vital role in supporting the implementation of key regional frameworks, including the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, the Boe Declaration on Regional Security, and the Pacific-led Ocean of Peace vision. She highlighted that continued cooperation with Korea contributes directly to strengthening regional preparedness, climate resilience, and collective security.
The 6th ROK–Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting concluded on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, with a Ministerial Joint Statement to be issued reflecting the shared outcomes and future direction of Korea–Pacific cooperation.
The Assistant Minister also held bilateral meetings with the Republic of Korea’s Vice Foreign Minister Ms Kim Jina and the Head of Delegation of New Zealand Hon. Casey Costello at the sidelines of the 6th ROK-PIFMM.
