Fiji reinforced its commitment to accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action at the 69th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) during a High-Level Interactive Dialogue and the delivery of Fiji's country statement.
The Acting Director for the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection, Ms. Emily Kamoe-Veiqati highlighted Fiji’s progress in inclusive education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and gender-responsive planning.
The Fiji Delegation as well as CSO partners presented their sevusevu and Tatau to the Permanent Mission of Fiji to the United Nations on Thursday evening and the event served as a platform for deeper engagement and strengthened regional collaboration in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Continuing with bilateral meetings, on March 15th 2025, the Acting Director Women met with Dr. Maliha Khan, President and CEO of Women Deliver, to discuss the forthcoming Women Deliver Conference.
The meeting explored opportunities for Fiji to showcase its leadership in gender equality, particularly in advancing women’s economic empowerment and addressing gender-based violence.
Discussions were around Women Deliver’s 2026 Conference (WD2026) that will be hosted in the Oceanic Pacific region from April 27-30, 2026, in Narrm (Melbourne), Australia and exploring possible opportunities of collaboration in preparation for this event.
Fiji concludes a successful week at CSW69, reaffirming its commitment to gender equality through strong regional and global partnerships.
The Fijian delegation extends its sincere appreciation to His Excellency Mr. Filipo Tarakinikini, Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the Deputy Permanent Secretary and the dedicated team at the Permanent Mission of Fiji to the United Nations for their invaluable support.
Fiji also acknowledges the civil society organizations - the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, and other Pacific member states for their solidarity and collaboration in amplifying Pacific voices on the global stage. Moving forward, Fiji remains steadfast in advancing the Beijing Platform for Action and strengthening collective efforts to empower all women and girls.
