A new set of assistance comprising of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth FJD136, 250 was provided by the Fiji China Friendship Association in partnership with the China Chamber of Commerce in Fiji and private sectors to assist Fijian front line workers in health care and essential services.
The assistance was formally presented this morning to the Honourable Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama by the President of the Fiji China Friendship Association Mrs Fang Fang Wu Jamnadas. The Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Mr Qian Bo and representatives of the China Chamber of Commerce in Fiji were also present at the official handing over program.
Prime Minister Honourable Voreqe Bainimarama thanked the Fiji China Friendship Association and Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Fiji for their generosity in providing the timely donation that will assist Fiji’s frontline workers in containing COVID19.
PM Bainimarama also conveyed appreciation to President of French Polynesia, M. Édouard Fritch for facilitating the transportation of these PPE’s to Fiji.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Bo congratulated Prime Minister Honourable Voreqe Bainimarama for his exemplary leadership and swift action in containing COVID-19.
Ambassador Bo reaffirmed the People’s Republic of China’s commitment to assist Fiji in its national response to combat COVID-19. He stated that the People’s Republic of China honors its friendship and bilateral cooperation with Fiji and it aspires to assist Fiji in the recovery and revival of the Fijian economy.
Fiji China Friendship Association President, Mrs Fang Fang Wu Jamnadas said the PPE donation is a demonstration of the long established friendship between the People’s Republic of China and Fiji. In the next phase of assistance, the Fiji China Friendship Association will embark on initiatives to open new marketing opportunities and cooperation in areas of trade, investment and export of Fijian Made Products.
“I would like to congratulate the Honourable Prime Minister for making Fiji a COVID free country and also the commitment made by your government to contain the spread of the virus.
“As part of our community, the Fiji China Friendship Association would also like to assist your Government and the people of Fiji in combating this pandemic; complementing the assistance provided by the People’s Republic of China through the Chinese Embassy in Fiji.
“I would like to reassure you Honourable Prime Minister that our assistance does not end here. We stand ready to assist your government in the recovery initiative post COVID-19. We would also like to assist in rebuilding Fiji’s economy and bring about new businesses and create more trade, investment and employment opportunities,” Mrs Fang said.
The Fiji China Friendship Association was established in 2012 and it has around 100 members.
