The Fiji Roads Authority is advising the public that a temporary weight restriction is now in place for the Vuci Irrigation Road Bridge.
Following an inspection this week by the Authority’s engineers, it was identified that the bridge needs significant work to make it safe for heavy vehicles to use. This work is being programmed for urgent action and will take place over the next 4-6 weeks.
In the interim period, a temporary weight restriction is in place limiting the use of the bridge to light vehicles of less than 3 tons. The FRA urges all drivers to adhere to this weight restrictions.
The Authority’s chief executive officer Neil Cook says that closure of bridges or weight restrictions are not imposed without very good reason. When weight restrictions are put in place, it is because experts have assessed the risk to public safety as very high if heavy vehicles continue to use a bridge before it is repaired.
