Today’s Fiji Times story – “Party Wants Roll Call” – reporting comments of SODELPA party official Dr Tupeni Baba, is factually inaccurate.
In this story, Tupeni Baba is reported calling on the Government to make the provisional roll of voters available to the public.
The National Register of Voters is and has always been available to both individuals and political parties for inspection, at their request, as outlined in Section 15 of the Electoral (Registration of Voters) Decree 2012.
In fact, we have been informed by the Acting Permanent Secretary for Justice, Mohammed Saneem, that on April 17th three SODELPA representatives, Ratu Dovi, Ratu Sikeli and Sekeli Duri Loco, inspected the Register on behalf of their party.
By failing to report the facts, and only reporting Dr Baba’s false comments, the Fiji Times has misled its readers.
