FIJI VOLUNTEER SCHEME REGISTRATION

23/05/2012

The Public Service Commission is looking for retirees, degree-holders and trades skilled individuals to register their details with the National Employment Centre (NEC) so that they can be engaged under the Fiji Volunteer Scheme (FVS).

“The Fiji Volunteer Scheme will allow an individual to be registered as an Unemployed Graduate Trainee Volunteer, a Senior Volunteer (Local) or a Senior Volunteer (Regional),” said the Public Service permanent secretary, Mr. Parmesh Chand.

Mr. Chand added that under the scheme, local volunteers are eligible for a weekly allowance of $100 of which 50% is paid by FVS and 50% by the host Ministry or Agency. Ten local volunteers began their work with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health a fortnight ago.

“Although the regional deployment of FVS volunteers has yet to begin, the PSC is working towards ensuring that Pacific Island Countries experiencing skill shortages in the fields of Education, Environment, Health, Agriculture, Disaster Management and Mitigation would be able to recruit volunteers  from the FVS database.”

A person who wishes to be engaged as a Volunteer needs to first register with then NEC and can then be identified to be part of the Fiji Volunteer Scheme program.

The Public Service has released an expression of interest for FVS volunteer registration and more information on FVS can be accessed at www.psc.gov.fj.
