FIJIAN GOVERNMENT COMMITTED TO PRESERVING AND PROTECTING ITS CULTURAL HERITAGE - MINISTER KUMAR

The Fijian Government is committed to preserving and protecting its cultural heritage.

This was emphasised by the Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Premila Kumar while launching the “Tuli Tuli” – Pottery Making in Lawai, Nadroga yesterday (7/12/21).

Minister Kumar stated that the Fijian Government follows the National Development Plan's goal of protecting and promoting the country's unique cultural heritage.

“Pottery is one such art that needs to be protected and promoted. Our local culture and arts play a significant role in the tourism industry in the form of performances and traditional arts and crafts made by local artisans.”

She highlighted that cultural heritage provides individuals and communities with a sense of identity that is authentic to them and "we have a rich cultural heritage that includes language festivals, rituals, and traditions."

"The Government has been providing various levels of support to cultural and creative industries at the national level, such as the introduction of the Fijian Made certification logo to assist consumers in easily recognising Fijian produced products or services," Minister Kumar.

“This campaign was initiated by the Fijian Government to create a Fijian brand to promote locally made, locally sewn, locally designed products”.

The Minister ended her address by thanking everyone for working together in unity and calling on every Fijian to protect their tradition and culture, as it defines who we are.
