FIJI’S HEADS OF DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS PRESENT TRADITIONAL ISEVUSEVU TO PRESIDENT LALABALAVU

16/12/2024

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) with Fiji’s Heads of Missions (HOMs) representing Fiji’s 13 Diplomatic Missions around the world presented a traditional isevusevu to the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, at the State House in Suva, this afternoon.

Accompanying the HOMs for this special visit to the State House were the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, and the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala.

The occasion preceded the upcoming Heads of Missions Meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Suva from Wednesday, 18th December, to Friday, 20th December, 2024.

The HOM Consultation presents the opportunity for Fiji’s ambassadors and high commissioners to engage in strategic discussions on the alignment of Fiji's diplomatic missions in order to better serve our foreign policy goals and national development priorities. Further, the HOM Consultation aims to enhance coordination between Fiji’s missions abroad and to strengthen their role in advancing Fiji’s interests globally.

President Lalabalavu conveyed his best wishes to the Heads of Diplomatic Missions (HOM) for the timely discussions they will undertake at the forthcoming HOMs consultation this week.

The Head of State acknowledged the critical work undertaken by Fiji’s diplomatic missions to advance Fiji’s national interests through bilateral and multilateral engagements and ensuring that Fiji continues to achieve greater things internationally.

His Excellency also elaborated on the importance of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper with key themes of sovereignty, security, and prosperity; and the concept of the “Ocean of Peace,” with the latter being the single most significant contribution that Fiji can make to global peace and security.

Fiji’s Heads of Diplomatic Missions look forward to the upcoming consultations that will focus on expanding Fiji's diplomatic footprint and partnerships for the benefit of the Fijian people.
