First Lady Madam Sarote Konrote this morning was Chief Guest at the Fiji Women Lawyers Association (FWLA) networking breakfast that was held at the Holiday Inn, Suva.
The networking breakfast was intended to allow the FWLA members meet and network with their benefactors, non-member lawyers, and other professional individuals who attended the breakfast. The theme of the networking breakfast was “50 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE”.
In her address Madam Konrote shared her story about growing up in the 1950’s – 1960’s era where a woman’s primary role was primarily focused on domestic duties. She shared her professional journey until she chose to support her family. Her life and where it is now was steered by her faith in God and the many blessings she received because of this faith.
Madam Konrote applauded the FWLA Executives and its initial reason for being established, as an organisation formed to address concerns of female legal practitioners. The issues addressed by the FWLA are Domestic Violence against women and children and it is encouraging to know that a real impact is planned to address domestic violence with the assistance of FWRM, FWCC, THE FIJI POLICE FORCE and SPC’s Human Rights Division.
Also present at the networking breakfast was Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Hon. Mereseini Vuniwaqa.
