FIRST LADY HOSTS SPOUSAL PROGRAMME

12/07/2022

First Lady, Adi Filomena Dikumete Katonivere hosted the spouses of Pacific Leaders at the State House under the Seniuci Spousal Programme today (12/07/22).

Welcoming her guests on behalf of His Excellency, the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, the First Lady said it was indeed a great honour to host the spouses at State House.

“I am quite impressed with the name of the Spousal Programme, the Seniuci after the Uci flower, which is used locally for medicine or perfume and is also part of the garland that you are all currently wearing this morning,” she said.

“The flower is normally planted in our homes or villages for ceremonies or as a boundary marker and how fitting is the name, as we the spouses of our national leaders play a most important role being the boundary of support, empowerment, inspiration, and protection for our spouses.”

“I particularly thank the organisers for acknowledging this and planning a programme for the spouses as I believe that we also contribute wisdom on matters on the Blue Pacific, the region, and its issues as well as appreciating regionalism upholding the theme of reflection, renewal, and celebration,” the First Lady further added.
