FLP OFFICIALS TAKEN IN FOR QUESTIONING FOR HOLDING MEETING WITHOUT PERMIT

This morning the Fiji Police Force took in for questioning more than fourteen officials from the Fiji Labour Party.

The group had gathered in Lautoka and were allegedly conducting a political meeting without a permit.

“While the Fijian Government respects the rights of citizens in this country to convene and hold meetings especially those of political nature, it is unfortunate that certain groups continue to disregard the laws of the country”, said the Ministry of Information permanent secretary Ms Sharon Smith Johns.

“The Fiji Labour Party, one of the most informed political parties in the country, has chosen to hold a meeting without a permit. It begs the question; is the Fiji Labour Party doing this deliberately to draw attention to itself”, Ms Smith Johns said.

“We remind the FLP once again that they must operate within the laws of Fiji”.
