FMF’S SPONSORSHIP OF NATIONAL GYMNASIUM

31/08/2012

The Fiji Sports Council is pleased to announce a partnership with FMF Foods Limited for the naming rights to National Gymnasium. FMF Foods Ltd, previously known as Flour Mills of Fiji Ltd has secured a five year naming right on the National Gymnasium, which will now be called  “FMF Gymnasium”.

“The Fiji Sports Council is proud to be associated with yet another champion company like FMF,” said Fiji Sports Council Chief Executive, Litiana Loabuka.

“By sponsoring the National Gymnasium, FMF is contributing significantly towards the betterment of sports and sporting facilities in the country”.

The National Gymnasium was built in 1979 for the Sixth South Pacific Games and with a capacity for 1,600 spectators and indoor courts, it has hosted a whole spectrum of events from regional indoor sporting competitions such as netball tournaments, badminton tournaments, FUTSAL Soccer, boxing, weight-lifting and non sporting activities such as examinations, graduations, concerts, conferences, seminars, weddings and religious gatherings.

The increasing developments within the Laucala Bay area such as the $30 million dollar shopping mall which will house various outlets and four cinemas adjacent to the Sports City complex, the SCC’s development of the land adjacent to the Muanikau Police Post as a designated picnic spot with food outlets and public amenities have made the Fiji Sports Council the centre of activities in the Laucala Bay area.

Further, the Fiji Sports Council has commenced major re-development work of the National Stadium, which will bring the stadium in line with international standards. The works will see the inclusion of tower lighting for night games, change rooms, coach’s rooms as well as tracks and playing field.
