The opening of a Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority (FRCA) Savusavu branch is seen as a positive move because it will largely benefit businesses in the Hidden Paradise of Vanua Levu.
FRCA chief executive officer Jitoko Tikolevu says the branch in Savusavu, which serves nearly 100,000 people from the larger Cakaudrove province including Rabi and Taveuni has saved people time and money when travelling to Labasa frequently.
“The opening of the new Savusavu office and the inclusion of the taxation division has made it a one stop shop,” he said.
“It serves not only the people from the tourist town of Savusavu but also farmers and businesses along the coast, which fall on both sides of the Hibiscus Highway to Buca Bay and right up to Taveuni and Rabi.”
He added Savusavu warranted a fully fledged office to be able to meet the demand of the growing economy in the Copra Town.
“Previously the Savusavu office only had the Customs Department because Savusavu is a port of entry but with the Taxation Division now established there, companies, businesses and people don’t have to go right to Labasa to lodge returns, pay their taxes, get a TIN, registration or enquire about their tax account,” Mr Tikolevu said.
“It is both effective and efficient for FRCA, as our Labasa office will not be travelling daily for issues.”
FRCA has an inspector co-ordinating business there.
