FUNDING SUPPORT FOR LOGISTICS

27/08/2012

A cheque of $52,000 was handed over to the Ministry of Provincial Development and Disaster Management Office today for logistics operations undertaken during the floods of March.

The funding was made available through AusAID and channelled through Act for Peace – a humanitarian arm of the National Council of Churches, Australia.

The Pacific Regional manager for Act for Peace, Anthony Blake said these funds were a reimbursement of costs undertaken by the ministry towards the provision of trucks, fuel and maintenance to support the logistics for response and relief to the floods.

“We acknowledge the excellent work undertaken by DISMAC in the response to and relief of the impacts of the floods. We hope these funds will assist towards the preparedness and risk reduction activities,” Mr Blake said.

AusAID also handed over $15,000 each to Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) and National Fire Authority (NFA) for the support given during the floods towards provision of water cartage to schools and hospitals.
