Family fun day at the camp

11/12/2011

Soldiers of the Land Force Command Unit organised a special family fun day at the military grounds on Saturday December 10, 2011.

The Chief Officer Operations Lieutenant Colonel Amani Suliano said this family day was done to reciprocate what their wives and children had been doing throughout the year.

In the past, various units of the military organized this event among themselves, this is the first time that they have decided to come together.

“In a world of turmoil and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to make our families the center of our lives and the top of our priorities,” Lt Col Suliano said.

“I believe one of the best ways for a family to spend time together is to play and do things together. This is an amazing way to commune with each other and our surroundings.

“We live in such a frenetic, hectic, world where we're constantly being bombarded with media from all directions. Family fun days don't have to be expensive, grandiose or even long for the family to enjoy time together.”

Guests at the fun day were girls from the Dilkusha Girls Home. The purpose of inviting them was to share with them the spirit of Christmas.

“We would like to share with them what other fortunate children have access to daily,”Lt Col Suliano said.

The children were treated to shows by the Fiji Police Dog Unit, demonstrations by the National Fire Authority, jumping castles for toddlers and other traditional fun activities like scrapping coconuts, tug of wars and just getting to know each other.

Families members came out in full force to relax and watch their children enjoy the activities provided.

Champion boxer Joseph Kwadjo, who was also part of the family fun day, was a hit with the young boys.
