COMPASSION AND UNITY ARE OUR GREATEST GIFTS THIS CHRISTMAS: AKBAR

29/12/2021

The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar, officiated at the launching of the “Light the World” Christmas event organised by Latter-day Saints Church in Suva.

While addressing the Latter-day Saints Church congregation members, Minister Akbar said, "Christmas is a time of year we all look forward to, regardless of our background. It is a joyous time, and we look forward to celebrating with our loved ones. Happiness increases when it is shared, so I urge everyone to share whatever they can with those who are in need and make their festive season brighter."

"The Fijian Government has been doing its part to support families that have lost their livelihoods, as a nation, as members of the same community, helping each other out is everyone’s responsibility. We are surrounded by people who require a little help — our elders, persons with disabilities and our children who are living in poverty."

With the theme of this year's initiative 'Light the World with Love,' Minister Akbar said that it promotes how we can apply the Christmas story to our daily lives.

With the COVID crisis affecting the world and the nation, Minister Akbar appealed to everyone to reach out a little wider and light Fiji and the world with charity and love this year.

"I invite everyone—everywhere—to join the Latter Day Saints Church in celebrating Christ’s birth and to Light the World with Love."
