Staying up all night, grabbing buckets, and shifting the bedding became a routine for the mother of five whenever it rained, as the roof of her house would start leaking.

Kesaia Bulu will now be able to enjoy the rainy season without any fear as her family was among the 36 families who were handed the keys to the newly built two-bedroom house in Lagilagi PRB Housing on January 29, 2025.

The 43-year-old said they shifted from their village 10 years ago and were residing in Jittu Estate.

“In that house, I had recently done an extension to cater for five children as they all are growing up,” she said.

“We are happy today (January 29) that they have chosen us to come to the new housing.”

She said the new flat marked a turning point in their life, as they wouldn’t be facing the challenges they had to endure in their former home.

“During the rainy season, rainwater starts coming inside our house as our roof starts leaking, and we keep doing maintenance of the floor. My roofing was old; sometimes I don’t sleep at night, so we can put basins and everything to cover our things."

“Now, in this new house, we know that we will be well and good."

“I feel good now that we can sleep without any tension.”

A total of 36 families were handed over occupancy offer letters at the Lagilagi Housing Estate on January 29 by Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka.
