THERE was much joy for Government workers on Koro Island as the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama commissioned three new buildings at the Nasau Government Station during his Lomaiviti tour recently.

Medical Officer, Dr Masikerei Vunicagi at Nasau Health Centre on Koro said they were delighted with this development and reassured that that the medical staff’s performance will improve because of this new facility.

“I am thankful to the Government of the day for assisting us here in Koro to look after the health and wellbeing of the villages here,” Dr Vunicagi said.

“It was a big challenge for us after Winston and getting this new building would meet the challenges that we are facing.”

Dr Vunicagi says the health centre serves close to 4,000 Fijians from the villages around Koro with only one doctor and four registered medical nurses.

Prime Minister Bainimarama said the infrastructure is now in place to ensure that these communities have the police protection, education, health services and agricultural extension services that they require and deserve. “We are more than reborn; we are thriving.

” Prime Minister Bainimarama commissioned the repaired Nasau Police Post and the staff quarters for the Nasau Health Centre, the new Koro District Administration Office and the Koro Agriculture Office and staff quarters during his Lomaiviti Tour.

“It takes a long time to rebuild when you build back better. We are building back stronger. We are building back with the determination to be fully prepared for whatever nature may bring us—and not just to prevail after the next storm, but to emerge from it stronger than ever,” the Head of Government said.

“Fijians are no strangers to hard times and adversity. We are strong people by nature and by necessity.

“I see that strength in the people of Koro. Despite the brutal impacts of Cyclone Winston, you are still here.
“Winston did not destroy Koro and it did not destroy Fiji; it made us stronger, and smarter, and even more resilient than ever.”

Prime Minister Bainimarama dedicated the new buildings and the reconstruction that are the physical representations of this revival of Koro island and of the invincible spirit of the Fijian people.
