The Republic of Botswana and the Republic of Fiji formalised diplomatic relations at a ceremony at the Fiji Mission to the United Nations in New York today.
Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Peter Thomson and his counterpart from Botswana, Ambassador Charles Ntwaagae, signed a joint communiqué establishing diplomatic relations between the two nations on June 28, 2011.
The signing ceremony was attended by Counsellor Luke Daunivalu of the Fiji Mission and Counsellor Faith Daniel of the Botswana Mission.
In formalising diplomatic relations, Fiji and Botswana have affirmed their desire to be guided by the principles and purposes enshrined in the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly those pertaining to the respect and promotion of international peace and security, states sovereignty, the mutual respect for independence, equality among states, international treaties, territorial integrity and non-interference in the domestic affairs of other nations.
