05/08/2010

As a result of last year's successful Central Heritage Exhibition during the Hibiscus Festival and the Evaluation/Talanoa session with artists during the Wasawasa Festival last year, the Heritage Arts Committee have decided to host the National Heritage Arts Exhibition during the Hibiscus Festival.

Fiji Arts Council Administration Office Manager, Ms Melino Bola said the aim of the National Heritage Arts Exhibition is to recognize artists who contribute to the sustainability of Fiji's heritage through the practice of art and craft forms.

"It also give artists an opportunity to sell and promote their work.

“It is also a good exhibition transmit and sustains traditional knowledge.

“The exhibition is also a good time for young artists to learn from the senior artists," Ms Bola said.

Ms Bola said  they will accept individual artists and community groups but middlemen are not allowed.

The National Heritage Arts Exhibition will be held during the Hibiscus Festival in Albert Park Suva from the 20th to the 28th of August 2010.
