Fiji has applauded the contribution of the Government of the Peoples Republic of China.

The Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Ratu Epeli Ganilau made the comments in celebration of the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Fiji and like the rest of the world he adds, have a lot to learn from the Chinese experience and its model in particular economic development and expertise in diverse areas of agriculture, education, communications, energy and industry.

As a result opportunities have opened up between our respective countries.

“There is a growing dynamism about these trends that alert us to our responsibilities to encourage and broaden the range of activities in which our companies and people are already involved,” he said.

“China has made remarkable strides in achieving high and sustainable economic growth and bring its benefit to its people.

“Our mutual solidarity goes back a long way, our struggle for freedom and democracy has largely been won and now we opening a new chapter in our relations.”

Ratu Epeli said the relationship between Fiji and China is closer today than it has ever been in the history of our two countries.

“Fiji and the world admire the progress achieved by China during the past two decades as its economy is the second largest in the world and is growing further,” he said.

“This is an indication of its vision and dedication of the Chinese leadership and the hard work of the Chinese people.”
