Fiji businesses to benefit from UN Procurement Seminar

15/07/2011

Different businesses houses should use the upcoming United Nations Procurement Seminar as an opportunity to supply their goods and services to the United Nations (UN) market.

Fiji’s trade commissioner to Los Angeles Mr Jitendra Singh says that Fiji businesses have been identified to be competent enough in supplying goods and services.

“There are a lot of companies in Fiji who we believe are capable of supplying to the UN so it is an excellent opportunity for Fiji businesses to be registered as vendors to the UN and supply goods and services to them,” Mr Singh said.

The objective of the seminar which was announced last month by the Attorney General Mr Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, would explain the procurement activities of the UN about what goods and services they purchase and a chance for qualified vendors who are interested in supplying the goods and services to the UN to register.

Mr Singh reiterated that in 2010, the UN purchased a total of US $13billion worth of goods and services.

He said this shows that the UN is a huge market.

Regional countries are also invited to the seminar.

“We have invited regional pacific island countries so that they might learn from this seminar and hopefully replicate some of these things and register some of their own vendors and in addition to these island countries, we are all basically encouraging all Fiji businesses who are interested in supplying to the UN to come forward and register and also to complete their vendor registration” Mr Singh said.

The seminar is facilitated by the Fiji Trade Commission to the United States of America and conducted by the UN procurement division based in New York.

It will commence on July 18 at Holiday Inn.
