The Fiji Government is committed to promoting opportunities for men and women to obtain decent and productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity.
The Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations, Filipe Bole made the comments, while launching the Decent Work Country Programme (2010 to 2012)
“ Government welcomes the endorsement of the Decent Work Country Programme in order to promote decent work as a key component of development policies and at the same time as a national policy objective of Government and social partners.
“ I note that this DWCP will also facilitate Government towards the achievements of our Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and outcomes of the Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress.
“ It challenges the policy options we take, and the Government has demonstrated once again, with the social partners, to place decent work at the heart of our economic and social policies to empower our people out of poverty towards dignity,” he said.
The Minister said the event is an historic moment that signifies the collective efforts and sustained commitments of the tripartite constituents in Fiji, through the enabling facilitation of the International Labour Organization (ILO), to progressively promote social justice in the labour market through the launching of Fiji’s Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) covering the period 2010 to 2012.
“ I congratulate the Director ILO Office for Pacific Island Countries and his staff, including ILO Consultants for the hard work in putting together Fiji’s Decent Work Country Programme, after consultations with the tripartite constituents since 2007,” he said.
He added that the tripartite consultations held in August and September of 2009 when the partners finally agreed on the Country Programme Priorities, Outcomes for each Priority and Outcome Indicators within the 2010 to 2012 timeline and assured the Government’s commitment towards the programme.
