Fiji nationals safe

Our Embassy in Japan has confirmed that all Fiji nationals they have contacted are safe.
 
In Tokyo, including Embassy Staff and families the estimated number is 35.
 
“We confirm that, of these number 30 have been contacted and are safe. We will contact the other 5,” he said.
 
A family of three in Yokohama has been confirmed safe while four teachers in Chiba have also been confirmed safe.
 
Fijian rugby players including Setareki Tawake have been contracted and are reportedly safe in Akita.  
 
Fiji Nationals in Japan on various training grants and scholarship is estimated at 22.
 
Of these numbers 7 are there on JICA training awards and JICA have confirmed their safety.
 
“15 who are long-term scholarship award, 3 have confirmed that they are safe,” HE Mataitoga said.
 
“The balance of 12, have now been contacted by their email contacts that the Embassy has been provided with and those who have no contact we will try to get in touch with their respective University directly to find out their status.”
 
“The embassy has started an email network where all Fiji nationals whose contact we have, have been sent an email from Ambassador requesting them to advise their safety status and also to send us email contacts or if they know the name and safety status report of other Fiji nationals they may know in their area, to advise the Embassy either to Ambassador or to First Secretary,” he added.
 
“The electronic bulletin Board is being set up to allow Fiji Nationals to report on to it issues of concern to them as well as their safety status.”
 
The estimated the number of Fiji Nationals in Japan is believed to be around 120.


“Our hope that we will try to contact all of them in the coming days,” HE Mataitoga said.
