The Permanent Secretary for the Public Service, Mr. Parmesh Chand says Government is grateful for the assistance it is getting from its bilateral partners in the area of manpower development.
The Deputy Secretary for Strategic Framework for Change Office, Mr. Filimone Kau and the Acting Supervisor for Elections, Mr. Soro Toutou are currently attending an international workshop on Democratic Leadership for Asian and Pacific Island countries held in Bali, Indonesia.
Mr. Chand said the two, were invited by the Government of Republic of Indonesia to participate in the workshop which is geared towards providing training to senior civil servants in the areas of leadership and accountability and transparency for the Asia- Pacific region.
“Given the current emphasis on increasing efficiency in service delivery, the Public Service Commission is seeking training providers to design and conduct Leadership Training for senior public officials which is an essential need to the civil service and is in line with the Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress and the Strategic Framework for Change and Sustainable development.”
Mr. Chand said the workshop in Bali, Indonesia is part of the process in identifying Leadership Training Institutes in the Asia- Pacific region.
Furthermore the Ambassador of Indonesia, His Excellency Aidil Chandra Salim said the trainings provided by the Government of Indonesia coincide with Fiji’s desire to have Leadership training for senior officers both in the military/police as well as civil service.
“Currently the Superintendent of Police, Mr. Sakiasi Tamani is now undertaking a National Leadership Training in Jakarta which runs till December 2011 and is conducted by Indonesia’s National Tenacity Institute which prepares cadre training and established integrative and professional national leaders who patriotic characters, morality and ethics,” His Excellency said.
Both Mr. Kau and Mr. Toutou join other participants from 18 countries from the Asia- Pacific region.
