Fiji to further relations with Russia

06/02/2011

In line with the Fiji Government’s Look North Policy, there is definite scope for deepening Fiji-Russia bilateral relations through political, economic, trade and investment and human resource development exchanges and seizing these opportunities will ultimately improve the standards of living for our people says acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Ratu Tui Cavuilati.

The above statement was made before the new non-Resident Russian Ambassador to Fiji H.E Ambassador Vladimir Morozov and his delegation as they departed Fiji for Canberra yesterday.

During his visit to Fiji this week, Ambassador Vladimir Morozov presented his credentials to the President H.E Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and called on the Prime Minister Commodore Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, Chief Justice Sir Anthony Gates and a number of ministers, permanent secretaries and senior executives in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Industry and Trade and Civil Aviation, Transport, Works and Energy, Lands and Minerals Resources, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Fiji Trade and Investment Bureau.

Both sides exchanged views on sectors for possible economic development and trade co-operation in the near future. These sectors include  civil aviation, shipping, mineral resources, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, medical and health, tourism and possible direct exports of Fiji made niche products such as Fiji bottled mineral waters, canned tuna and cosmetics.

The Russian Delegation has been offered not only to revisit our 'paradise in the sun' but to also foster business and private sector opportunities and improve the Fiji-Russia socio-political relationship, alliances and partnerships.
