This week, the police Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) <http://www.fijifiu.gov.fj/default.aspx>  hosted the Third Annual Anti-Money Laundering conference <http://www.fijilive.com/news/2011/10/25/37450.Fijilive>  in Fiji’s capital, Suva.

The FIU oversees ongoing prevention of financial crimes, including “terrorist financing” and other fraudulent activities perpetuated by financial institutions, foreign exchange dealers, and more.

Fiji’s Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum <http://www.ag.gov.fj/?page=attorneyGeneral>  referred to this conference as “just one part of a continued effort on behalf of the Bainimarama Government to encourage – and enforce – both transparency and accountability in all business practices.”

This gathering of over 150 great minds addressed the question of appropriate justice as applied to finance-related offenses, polling delegates in law enforcement, the judiciary, institutions affected by the Financial Transactions Reporting Act <http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1996/0009/latest/DLM373804.html> , government representatives, and more.

“The Bainimarama Government continues to take steps in protecting the rights of its people to do business and drive industry development under the protection of fair practice laws”, shared Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, “and our participation in this conference speaks to our continued commitment to transparent business practices in Fiji and across the world.”

It is expected that lessons learned at this conference will be applied as immediately as possible to business practices without interrupting the current flow of the economy.

Especially as Fijian leadership continues to expand its global business relationships <http://www.fijitimes.com/story.aspx?id=183906>  in multiple sectors (telecommunications <http://www.rnzi.com/pages/news.php?op=read&id=63969> , healthcare <http://www.fijitimes.com/story.aspx?id=183029> , education <http://www.fijitimes.com/story.aspx?id=182611> , etc.), these business practice mandates will ensure the productive and secure relationships for all international partners.
