Fire destroys Labasa house

22/04/2010

An early morning fire today destroyed a lean-to house at Benau Korociri settlement in Labasa. No one was at home at the time of the incident.

The corrugated iron/timber dwelling was well engulfed in flames when the Labasa fire crew reached the scene. The house belonged to Mr Mahen Singh.

Divisional Fire Officer Northern Mr John Pillay: “NFA is working with the Police to ascertain the cause of the fire. We urge home owners to ensure that every ignition source in the house is turned off before they leave their home.”

Mr Pillay said people should notify their local Police Station if they are leaving their homes to visit their relatives or call the fire brigade on 911 in the event of a fire.

Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility and you can save your property from going up in flames by taking extra precautions with fire ignition sources.
