The National Fire Authority (NFA) officers in Nadi underwent a two-days fire investigation training course at the Nadi Fire station this week.
The fire investigation training course was conducted by NFA and attended by eighteen officers from NFA stations in the Western division, two officers from the Fiji Police Force and four Fiji Electricity Authority inspectors.
NFA Chief Fire Officer Mr Tupou Saubulinayau said, “fire investigation is a necessary function of the Fire Authority, Police and the FEA.”
“Fire prevention activities and fire investigations often result in improved fire fighter safety and enhances fire prevention focus.”
“Fire fighter safety can be enhanced by a thorough investigation of fire fighter injuries or death, determining how, why and what occurred and can help to prevent future accidents.
“Details of accident incidents during fires shared with other fire fighters helps reduce the potential for these types of incidents recurring.
Factors such as building construction and fire ground operations are usually a major component of these investigations.
“This is the first time for such fire investigation course to be organized in the Western division involving the fire fighters from NFA stations in Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Fiji Police Force and the FEA.”
“This course will further upgrade fire investigation skills of Fiji’s fire fighters, Police Force and FEA Fire Inspectors/ Investigators.
NFA is grateful to the Fiji Police Force and FEA for allowing their officers to attend the fire investigation course at the Nadi Fire Station,” Mr Saubulinayau added.
Similar Fire investigation courses were held in the Northern and Central/Eastern divisions earlier this month.
