Fire leaves Ba family homeless

15/02/2010

The National Fire Authority (NFA) responded to a fire incident last night at Tauvegavega Housing settlement in Ba. The fire destroyed the three-bedroom house owned by Mr Shyam Karan.

NFA Ba received the fire emergency call at 10:24pm from the police and upon arrival at the scene at 10:26pm found the house in flames. No one was at home during the time of the fire incident. The wooden structure was totally destroyed.

NFA investigations indicate that the probable cause of the fire was an electrical short-circuit and that the fire probably started from the sitting room.

NFA recommends that home owners have their properties thoroughly checked by a Fiji Electricity Authority-certified electrical contractor to avoid such incidents from occurring.
