First of leaders arrive

Regional leaders have started arriving into the country for the second Engaging with the Pacific meeting that will begin on Thursday in Nadi.

The first leader to arrive was the special envoy of French Polynesia, Senator Richard Tuheiava.

He arrived at the Nadi International airport last night and will be representing the Head of State of French Polynesia and the President of France His Excellency Nicolas Sarkozy.

Senator Tuheiava is a member of the Senate of France, representing French Polynesia and is a member of the Socialist Party.

This was confirmed by the deputy secretary for Foreign Affairs, Sila Balawa.

“Yes we can confirm that the special envoy of French Polynesia Mr Tuheiava is in the country and he is the first leader to arrive,” Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Political & Treaties) deputy secretary Mr Sila Balawa said.

“We are expecting the representative of Wallis and Futuna Mr Alesio Katoa to arrive later today.”

Mr Katoa is a member of the (French) Territorial Assembly for Wallis and Futuna and is also a nomination from the office of the President Sarkozy.

The Vanuatu delegation led by the honourable Prime Minister Sato Kilman will arrive tomorrow.
