The Department of Fisheries will soon establish a Fisheries Council to act as advisory council within the Fisheries sector says Permanent Secretary for Fisheries, Commander Viliame Naupoto.

Commander Naupoto said Government is in the process of drafting three legislations into the National Council which will establish the fisheries council.

“For example in the offshore legislation, it establishes a fisheries advisory council on offshore matters it will be the same for aquaculture and inshore,” he said.

He said that the establishment of the Three legislations would form the basis of the National Fisheries council.
The National Fisheries council would mainly involve the stakeholders of the industry, Fiji Islands Trade and Investment Bureau  and the Government.
