Fly a flag for Fiji

29/09/2010

Let us all be patriotic by raising a Fiji flag when we celebrate the 40th anniversary of our independence this year.

The chairman of the Fiji Day Committee, Mr Jale Fotofili says people should raise flags and place them on bumpers, in their cars or homes to signify that they are proud to be Fijians.

It is important to be patriotic and proud of our country. This should not come from us but from the people, ” Mr Fotofili said.

Fiji Day is the biggest celebration for our country and we should not to be reminded of our call. Nothing is restricted if one is loyal and true to his or her nation.

We need people who are willing to bring together citizens from all walks of life to show that Fiji is still paradise.”

The Fiji Day Committee has sought approval from Cabinet for the use of flags on cars.

People can put up flags in their cars or buildings from this week onwards to show that we are Fiji,” Mr Fotofili said.

“The theme ‘Celebrate our Fiji’ is not applicable to a certain group of people but for everyone. Anybody who loves Fiji and is proud of his or her heritage can celebrate Fiji Day.

This is the unique thing about Fiji. We have people of different colour, race, religion, culture, tradition all living in peace.

We can still show the world that Fiji is still the way the world should be.”
