Free text books for primary schools well ahead of schedule

The Education Minister, Mr Filipe Bole, in his speech during the opening of the new Lavena Primary School, Taveuni, confirmed that the distribution of free textbooks for primary schools, is well ahead of schedule as it is expected that by mid-February, all primary school students will be issued textbooks.

So far, textbooks for all primary schools in Kadavu, Rotuma, Lau have been distributed with schools in Lomaiviti expected to be completed by this week.

Straight after the Eastern Division schools, Northern primary school are expected to be distributed with theirs.

The Ministry is thankful that with the assistance of the government printery, the staff of the Education Resource Centre and the District Education Offices, without which, this exercise would have been delayed.

Lately, there have been a lot of positive feedbacks on all the initiatives by the Ministry to provide an accessible and free education system for the children of Fiji.

These include the provision of free tuition, free fare, free textbooks and lately the assistance to be given to parents who still face difficulties in providing an education for their children.

The Ministry is hopeful that parents will firm up their support towards the education of their children, now that the Ministry has greatly assisted in students’ education.
