THE continuous generous donation by business houses and individuals to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund is enabling Government to assist those who were severely affected by the two floods.
The Prime Minister’s Office received over $168,078 in donation this morning from a variety of business houses and one individual, a social welfare recipient who turned up this morning to support the relief fund.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama thanked all the groups and reminded them that whatever the amount, Government was happy that they felt for their fellow citizens.
“No donation is small. I thank you for this kind donation that will go towards assisting those who were affected by the floods,” he said.
One donor in particular stood out. Mr Gyaneshwar Prasad is not only a social welfare recipient but is also disabled, however, this did not prevent him from giving $100 to help others in need.
For the second time Bank of Baroda extended a helping hand by forking out $20,000 to assist those affected from the devastating floods in the country.
Radio Tarana, which operates out of Auckland, New Zealand, donated $33,745.60 while Digicel donated $30,000 in addition to their earlier donation for the January floods.
Fiji National Provident Fund staff contributed $5212 on top of the $1000 per family assistance given by the fund to those who were badly affected and needed money to rebuild while Fair Deal Earthmoving Contractors Limited gave $5000. Carpenters Motors also donated $4021 to the Prime Minister this morning at his office.
Offshore Fisheries together with its various subsidiaries gave a hefty $50,000 to Government while Chinese ceiling company China GezHouba Group Company, which is carrying out ceiling work in Sigatoka and Sawani, provided $20,000.
Prime Minister Bainimarama noted that, “many of these companies and co-operatives had given before but hearing of the devastation by the second floods, they have come out again to assist”.
Many of these businesses, out of their own initiative, are giving out other forms of assistance such as food packs, clothes and much more so that the people in the Western division can once again lead a normal life.
