GIRC Improves Public Service Visibility

13/07/2011

The Government Information and Referral Centre (GIRC) is strategically located in downtown Suva and as such is strengthening the visibility of government’s role and functions through respective ministries, departments and agencies.

Public Service Commission permanent secretary Mr Parmesh Chand said that government ministries, departments and agencies are increasingly taking the opportunity to showcase their roles functions and services at the centre.

This week, the hype of activity surrounds the exhibition from the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, Electoral Reform and Anti-Corruption under the banner of the Ministry. The Solicitor General’s Office, Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption, the Prisons and Correctional Services, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Registrar General’s Office are all exhibiting their roles, functions and services at the Centre.

In addition, the printing and sale of Birth, Death and Marriage certificates at the exhibition has enabled members of the public to converge at the ‘one stop shop’.

Moreover, this week’s exhibition, is also an awareness drive for certain sections of the public, who are unaware of the services provided by other offices such as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the role it plays in association with the  Legal Aid Services.

The Prisons and Correctional services says they have been receiving a good crowd with members of the public enquiring about the Yellow Ribbon project, as well as a high demand from the public regarding the sale of their agricultural products such as  egg’s and hot bread, together with neatly sewn cushions all at affordable prices.

The promotion of government’s services and programmes is part of Government’s overall objective to heighten and promote its visibility to members of the public through improving service delivery which is promoted through the ‘Peoples Charter.’
