GLOBAL DELEGATION TO PROMOTE ACCESS TO TOP UNIVERSITIES

05/06/2025

A two-member delegation from the World Leading Schools Association (WLSA) had a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica and the Acting Permanent Secretary for Education, Mr. Ratu Meli Nacuva on Tuesday (3/6/25) to discuss plans to bring a group of senior university admissions leaders and global educators to Fiji in early July.

The upcoming visit marks the first time WLSA will bring its global university engagement programme to Oceania, following successful events in China, South Africa, and Botswana.

The visiting delegation will include representatives from top universities such as Boston University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California, and New York University. Their mission is to engage with Fijian students, educators, and officials to expand access to world-class higher education, with a focus on financial aid, global pathways, and long-term academic partnerships.

WLSA is a non-profit educational association founded in New York in 2011 and now connects more than 50 leading schools across six continents. Through its College Admission Network (CAN), WLSA facilitates direct connections between talented students in developing countries and leading global universities.

“Many Fijian students have the potential to thrive on the global academic stage but face structural and financial barriers,” said Dr. Jack Jia, Executive Director -WSLA.

“This visit is about opening doors and building long-term partnerships.”

The visit to Fiji follows WLSA’s Global Student Conference in Sydney on June 30, which will bring together over 200 students from more than 10 countries. The delegation will travel from Sydney to Auckland on July 1, then on to Suva on July 3, with outreach and engagement events scheduled for July 4.

WLSA reaffirms its commitment to expanding global education opportunities and looks forward to deepening ties with Fiji’s academic and policy leadership.
