GOVERNMENT ESSENTIAL SERVICES MADE ACCESSIBLE TO VILLAGERS IN YASAWA

24/02/2026

Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no Fijian is left behind, bringing essential public services directly to the people of Matacawalevu in Nacula, Yasawa Islands today (24-02-26).

Through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, a multi-agency outreach programme was conducted on the island, with participation from the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, the Ministry of Commerce and Business Development, the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

At Matacawalevu, Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Jese Saukuru highlighted the importance of delivering essential government services to Fiji’s maritime communities, stressing that geographical location should not limit access to opportunities and support. He emphasised the urgent need to address the rising number of HIV cases among young people, as well as the growing influence of drugs affecting youths and young adults in villages.

The outreach provided a range of on-the-spot services, including registration of youth groups, printing of new Joint ID Cards, registration of co-operative businesses, enrolment with the National Employment Centre, and HIV testing and counselling services.

The Government reiterated that bringing services directly to maritime zones remains a key priority. The initiative reflects Government’s strong commitment to inclusive development, improved service delivery, and safeguarding the wellbeing of youths and families across Fiji’s maritime regions.
