Votualevu College recently celebrated the opening of their newly refurbished Year 13 rooms and their new ICT center.

Ministry of Education permanent secretary, Dr Brij Lal commended the foresight of the founders of the school and the present committee for their commitment in strengthening access to education.

“I am informed that the upgrading of the ICT center started last year through the initiative of the school management, which raised the sum of $32,000. I am happy that the ministry grant has been put to good use with $35,000 allocated to the completion of the upgrading. I laud the management and other stakeholders of the school for utilizing $40,156 for the refurbishment of the library and Year 13 buildings,” Dr Lal said.

He said that providing computer education program leads to a variety of career paths such as software developers, programmers, database administrators, system analysts or computer scientists.

“Computer education programs also prepare individuals to be more creative and artistic by offering courses in graphic design, game design, or web design and animations; today we watch animated TV commercials and movies, which are magical and enjoyable.

“The noble intention to make education affordable, accessible and equitable is in line with Pillar 9 of the People’s Charter and that is to make Fiji a smarter nation. We believe to have a highly literate population with a well-trained, fully qualified and better equipped workforce in the near future,” Dr Lal added.
