GOVERNMENT DELEGATION TO ASSESS PROJECT DEVELOPMENTS IN LAU

The Divisional Commissioner Eastern, Netani Rika will lead a government delegation this week to assess government projects implemented in the Lau Group.

Lieutenant Colonel Rika said the tour is part of efforts to assess Government projects for the first 6 months of this year in the Eastern Division.

The two-week tour to several parts and islands in the Lau group will see various senior government officials meet with villagers on how best to implement these projects and to look at ways of improving service delivery.

“After the Lau Group we will then visit Kadavu, Lomaiviti and the last one will be for Rotuma in May,” Rika said.

“These islands are namely Cicia, Tuvuca, Cikobia, Nabavatu, Vanua Balavu, Lakeba, Komo, Kabara, Vatoa, Ono-i-Lau, Matuku and Moala,” Litenant Colonel Rika said.

He said those Government officers from various ministries that will be part of the tour will also conduct their own core activities on these islands.

“This includes officers from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Information, Elections Office officers, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ministry of Works, Water Authority of Fiji, Fiji Police Force officers, Airports Fiji Limited officials, officers from Telecom Fiji and others,” he said.

The Commissioner said that during this tour of the Lau Group they will be transporting new teachers who are being posted to Lau for the first time.

The tour begins on the 13th of January to the 26th of January 2014.
