GOVERNMENT FOCUSES ON RELIEF ASSISTANCE

Following the declaration of the State of Disaster in part of the Western Division, Government is has shifted its focus to a number of areas:

—Providing relief supplies to evacuees

—Coordinating local and international assistance
—Coordinating the cleanup programme of disaster affected areas
—Medical intervention and water purification
—Restoring schools used as evacuation centres to be vacated and ready for classes on Monday
—Restoring of basic utilities and infrastructure

Government wants to ensure that people in affected areas are safe and have access to essential services as soon as possible, specifically water, electricity and food.


The National Emergency Operation Centre [NEOC] is closely monitoring the recovery measures taken by Government Agencies and NGOs, collating and analyzing assessment reports to help the Government make timely decisions that will ensure speedy restoration of life-line services to affected areas.

Priority areas that are being attended to immediately are shelter, education, food ration, water, electric power, and health.


RESCHEDULE OF SCHOOL OPENING - BA DISTRICT

The Prime Minister during his visit to Ba on Saturday directed that the schools in Ba to be opened on Tuesday of next week (07/02/12) due to the current water problem faced in the Ba District. Teachers are to report for normal duties.
