Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports today signed a memorandum of understanding with Global Vision International to promote development amongst youths and their socio economic well-being today.
Global Vision International is a volunteer scheme that promotes conservation measures to address pressing and prevailing issues faced by communities
The Ministry of Youth permanent secretary Mr Joseva Sania said that today’s development will solidify the ground work for community development in Fiji.
“Fiji is fortunate to be in partnership with GVI an international organization that believes strongly in the transformative power of participating in international volunteer work, international education and cultural exchange”, Mr Sania said.
He pointed out that a team from his department visited GVI projects sites in Yasawa earlier this year, including areas of construction projects and education, marine conservation projects, rainwater harvesting and agricultural diversification project.
He said that through this survey, government expressed its interest in commencing a partnership programme with GVI to allow the same concept to be used by other youth in the country.
Global Vision International representative Dan Laund said there is now a greater variety of opportunities for youth through the introduction to new skills or enrichment of education.
“Many great initiatives exist but keeping them going can be challenging but we need to encourage and empower our youths to strive for the best,” Mr Laund said.
