“As the Minister responsible for electrification throughout Fiji I fully support the national aim of achieving nationwide electrification by the year 2021.”
This was highlighted by the Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate while speaking to villagers of Tokou in Ovalau on day one of his tour of the island.
“Recently there has been an increase in EFL grid extension and there are areas where the grid extension cannot reach so there is also an increase in the use of solar power which my ministry will also assist people with,” Minister Usamate said.
“Government is advocating the use of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and wave power.”
“Governments long term ambition in this regard is for Fiji to have one hundred percent renewable energy by the year 2035. We want to do away with diesel in order to decrease carbon emission,” Minister Usamate said.
