The Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Hon. Agni Deo Singh, has reaffirmed the Fiji Government’s strong commitment to providing quality education and skills training for all young people in the country.

Speaking during a visit to Vunisea Secondary School, Minister Singh stressed the importance of humility, service, and dedication in both leadership and personal growth to the principal, staff, students, and government colleagues.

“Our Government is investing heavily in your education, our future generation.”

“From early childhood education to tertiary studies, we are covering costs through school grants, back-to-school support and scholarships. We want every student to have the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background,” he said.

Minister Singh highlighted the various career pathways available, encouraging students to make informed choices based on their abilities and interests, with guidance from parents and teachers.

He placed special emphasis on the value of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), noting the lucrative opportunities in trades such as mechanics, carpentry, and plumbing.

The Government’s Apprenticeship Program and Workplace Attachment Scheme were also outlined, providing structured on-the-job training, wage supplements, and allowances to help young people transition into skilled and sustainable employment.

Hon. Singh also issued a strong warning against drug use, stressing its harmful impact on individuals, families, and communities.

“Drugs destroy lives and futures. I urge every young person here to stay away from this scourge and to report any drug-related activities to the authorities.”

The Minister urged students to value hard work and perseverance.

“Your parents have sacrificed so much for your education. Take advantage of the opportunities before you, work hard, and make them proud. Our nation’s future depends on you becoming successful, responsible, and contributing members of society,” Hon. Singh said.

Minister Singh also visited Richmond Methodist High School, Eliki Primary School and Namalata Central Primary School during his visit to Kadavu last week, sharing the same sentiments with the students and teachers on the Coalition Government’s commitment towards education.
