The Government has expressed its appreciation of donations that are coming in from civil society and businesses.
The Ministry of Provincial Development and National Disaster Management Office permanent secretary Mr Inia Seruiratu said they were grateful for the gestures of support to unfortunate citizens and friends affected by the floods.
The Latter Day Saints church and Colgate-Palmolive Limited today donated relief supplies, which were handed over to Mr Seruiratu. Coordination of assistance will be handled by his office.
Other organisations that provided relief included ADRA, a subsidiary of the Seventh Day Church, Rotary International, Asco Motors, Fiji Water and Rotary Fiji.
Governments of countries such as Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, China, the Japan International Agency (JICA) and United Nations agencies including the United Nations Development Programme, the World Health Organisation and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have pledged support.
“It is reassuring to know that we have friends who are there by our side in our times of need,” Mr Seruiratu said.
