GOVERNMENT THANKS ESSENTIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS

21/12/2012

Government today thanked those countless individuals who left their families and provided the much needed assistance during emergency operations as Tropical Cyclone Evan passed through the Fiji Group earlier in the week.

Minister for Provincial Development and Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu said the sacrifice of personnel from the military, police, health professionals, information and the media came to fruition as no lives were lost during the category 4 cyclone.

He also paid tribute to inmates from the correctional services for their contribution towards restoring normalcy around parts of the country.

“I take this time on behalf of Government to thank those that helped during the disaster and especially their families who endured without them during this emergency period,” he said.

Minister Seruiratu also praised media outlets around the country for continuously informing the public on disaster preparedness.

“We thank the media for its role in getting the message out and preparing our citizens and tourists before Tropical Cyclone Evan struck”.

“I believe this Christmas will bring all Fijians closer to each other and bind us together as we look forward to the new year.”
